a. Note:   , died Sunday, April 14, 2002, at Carolinas House of Forest City. Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late James Webb and Emma Laughlin Spangler. She was a former receptionist at Cleveland Memorial Hospital, worked in food service in Shelby City Schools and co-owned Whisnant’s Flower Shop in Polkville. She was a long-time member of Polkville United Methodist Church and past Worthy Matron Call Chapter of Order of Eastern Star. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Ivey Whisnant; a second husband, D.C. Falls; and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, James “Eddie” Whisnant and his wife, Catherine, of Shelby and Charles D. “Bud” Whisnant of Hampton, Tenn.; two daughters, Sara Libby Hughes and her husband, Henry, of Tarboro and Alice Whisnant Willis of Shelby; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Polkville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bill Smith officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall and at the home of Catherine and Eddie Falls, 115 Sunrise Circle, Shelby. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Discovery Unit at Carolina House, 439 Piney Ridge Road, Forest City, NC 28043; or to Polkville UMC, P.O. Box 9, Polkville, NC 28136. Cecil M.
