  Organized as Curtis Horse by order of General Fremont. Cos. "A," "B," "C" and "D" organized at Omaha, Neb., September 14 to November 13, 1861; "E" at Dubuque, Ia.; "F" in Missouri, as Fremont Hussars, October 25, 1861; "H" at Benton Barracks, Mo., December 28, 1861; "G," "I" and "K" as 1st, 2nd and 3rd Independent Companies, Minnesota Cavalry, at Fort Snelling, Minn., October 29 to December 20, 1861; "L" as Naughton's Irish Dragoons at Jefferson City, Mo., and "M" as Osage Rifles at St. Louis, Mo., November 1, 1861. Duty at Benton Barracks, Mo., till February, 1862. Moved to Fort Henry, Tenn., February 3-11. Patrol duty during battle of Fort Donelson. Expedition to destroy railroad bridge over Tennessee River February 14-16.

  Organized at Omaha October 23, 1862, and assigned to duty at Fort Kearney, Neb., guarding frontier of Nebraska, protecting emigrants, stage and telegraph lines and operating against Indians till April, 1863. Ordered to Sioux City. Attack on Pawnee Agency June 23, 1863 (Co. "D"). Sully's Expedition against Indians in Dakota Territory August 13-September 11. Action at White Stone Hill, Dakota Territory, September 3. Skirmish at White Stone Hill September 5 (Co. "F"). Company "D" on duty at Omaha and at Fort Kearney, Neb. Mustered out December 23, 1863.
  43rd Regiment, Missouri Infantry
  Organized at St. Joseph, Mo., August 22 to September 7, 1864. Attached to District of Northern Missouri, Dept. of Missouri, to April, 1865. District of Central Missouri, to June, 1865.
  Duty in District of Northern Missouri till April, 1865. Action at Booneville, Mo., October 9 and 12, 1864. Brunswick October 11. Battle of Glasgow October 15, 1864 (6 Cos.). Operating against guerillas in District of Central Missouri till June, 1865. Affair Little Blue River March 11, 1865 (Detachment). Skirmish Star House, near Lexington, May 4 (Detachment). Mustered out June 30, 1865.
