The following is abstracted from "David Rush and His Descendants and Stories of the Community" which was compiled and published by Mrs. Mamie Rush Broadwater in 1953. An updated version titled "Family of David Rush" was compiled by Norma Autrey and published in 1995. David Rush, according to family tradition, came from Pennsylvania to what later was Edgefield County SC. It is said he came with troops sent South to help fight the British under General Greene. With him, tradition has it, was a brother, Daniel Rush. David married Margaretta Rosena Adolph circa 1786. She was the daughter of Henrick Adolph and Maria Dorst Adolph, German settlers on Hard Labor Creek who came to SC from the Palatinate in 1764. Family tradition has always maintained that David Rush was related to Benjamin Rush of Pennsylvania, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Much of this is unverified. 1792 Nov 17 - Adjacent land references in deed for Abraham Kracker for 90 acres on Little Horse Pen Creek (SCDAH Series S213190, Vol 31, p.99, Item 2). 1796 Adjacent land referenced - Conveyance Book 13: 1796 - 1797, Edgefield Co., SC p. 283-284: Deed of Darling Flover and wife Mary to Alexander Burnett . . . . . lying on Little Horse Pen Creek water of Cuffeytown Cr. of Savaner River adj Henry Audulph, David Rush . . . .
