Note: 1840 Census - Abbeville Co, SC; p.60; 1000100000000-1000100000000. 1850 Census - Abbeville Co, SC; p.112a; Willis (36), Sarah (35), Satira (12), Thomas N (10), Edmond C (4), Martha F (9/12). 1860 Census - Harrisburg PO, Abbeville Co, SC; p.49a; Willis (42), Edmund (13), Elizabeth (4). 1870 Census - Smithville Twp, Abbeville Co, SC; p.374a; Willis (35), Mary (14), Lizzie (13), Mgt B (3). Mary is second wife - correlates with 1880 data. Ages for Willis and Mary are obviously incorrect; Willis should be about 53 and Mary about 36. Lizzie matches 1860 entry for Elizabeth. Mgt B is Bell in 1880 census. 1880 Census - Whitehall, Abbeville Co, SC; p.369d; Willis (63), Mary (46 - wife); Bell (13), Della (8), John (5), Olivia (3), Eliza (24 - niece born in FL), Wiley (12 - Nephew born in FL). Eliza and Wiley Smith in the 1880 census are the children of Willis's brother Wiley Smith (see 1870 census record for Wiley). The first son, Thomas Nelson Smith, is named for Sarah's father, Thomas Hinton, and Willis' father, Nelson Smith. After his father's death when he was young, Willis was raised by Edmund Cobb. His second son, Edmund C Smith, is likely Edmund Cobb Smith; named for him. 1844 Oct - Signer of petition, "Citizens of Abbeville District, Petition Asking for an Additional Magistrate in Beat Company No. 4, Lower Battalion, Sixth Regt.
