Need to find in Immigration Records. 1870 Census - William Corley; Waterloo Twp; Laurens Co, SC; p227b; William (21), Elizabeth (16); living near father-in-law John Crawford. 1880 Census - Waterloo Twp, Laurens Co, SC; Ed.106, Sheet 78; p.276B; William Carly Jr. (36, born Sweden), wife Elizabeth (28), father William (58, born Sweden), Timpie (7), Robert (5), Lula (2), Willie (6/12). 1900 Census - Frederick W Carley; Cokesbury Twp, Greenwood Co, SC; Ed.72, Sheet 3; Frederick W (born Mar 1844 Sweden widowed, both parents born in France), John W (Jan 1879), Walter E (Feb 1883). Lived adjacent to daughter Lula M and her husband George W Baldwin. Census entry says he immigrated in 1866, in US for 34 years, not naturalized. Renting home. In Dec 1901, moved from Cokesbury area (Greenwood County) to a farm near the Orphanage just outside of the city of Greenwood - he bought 55 acres there. See Greenwood Index newspaper, 19 Dec, 1901; p.8. Obit - Greenwood Index, 22 Dec 1904, p.1: Mr. F. W. Carlay, who lives near the Orphanage, died Sunday morning after a long illness. Mr. Carlay had been ill for some time. As has been published in the Index before in a sketch of him, Mr. Carlay was a native of Sweden. He has been quite successful as a farmer since coming to America. He was carried to Laurens, his home before coming to this county for burial.
