Note: gro : birth phillips raymond l holman croydon 2a 473 mar q 1928 Name: Raymond Leslie Phillips Death Year: 1997 Age: 69 Birth Date: 11 Feb 1928 Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 1997 Registration District: Croydon Inferred County: Greater London Inferred Country: England Register Number: D79B Entry number: 241 ************************************************ national service in raf (ground) work as train enginer at batersea depo he was a big part of our family .although he was only our uncle he spent most of his free time with us ......his was a big brother/second father role where my sisters and i were concerned .........he would pick us up from school .for years ,on a friday night, he took us shopping to tescos in shirley which was one of the first supermarkets to apear ; we kept boxes just for this . he would take us (the whole family) out on trips and on holidays . in fact that is how carol and his nephew richard met ,we visited his brothers and sisters ectra. we even visited his works were we played on the trains. one thing he always did when it came time to renew his car was to make sure that the 6 of us and him could fit in to the car. we were his family that june and he never had. died about 1/2 hour after princess diana (august bank holiday) after a short illness. he contracted lung cancer which matastisized in his brain. this must have been very frighting for him as his best friend (my father) had died of lung cancer bearly 3 years before. he doted on my mothers dogs ironicly his favorit 'rocky' had to be put to sleep that same day. we know that he did come into contact with asbestos during his work before cocernes were raised about its safty but death was not atributed to this. was married prior to relationship with june ..
