******************** Although Charles Ruffles is listed, in lambeth, correctly as widower, his wife Jane having died in 1894. the 1911 census states that he had been married for 14 yrs to a Betsy Cole Ruffles this makes the relationship beginning abt. 1896.
there is not a marriage for a Charles and Betsy in the GRO although there is a marriage of a charles ruffles to a betsy patchett in 1905 this was ANOTHER paring and they can be found also in the 1911 census
it should be noted that i did not find Betsy in the 1901 census & suspect that she WAS with Charles but that Betsy was left off the return due to their not being married
I believe that Betsy was Betsy Abraham [birth 1856 not recorded in GRO] who married William Cole in 1876. i have not conclusively identified William Cole as of the 1891 census.

******************** As the name is 'Betsy Cole Ruffles' it suggests this is likely to be Betsy Abraham who married William Cole 1879. The return gives the fact that 7 children were born to the marriage but this is incorrect.
Infact Charles had 4 children with jane:- Amelia, Louisa, Ethel & Charles jr. Charles jr died in 1894.
Betsy Cole nee Abraham had 3 children with William cole, whom she married in 1876;- Sarah, Alice & Florence. both Sarah & Florence died in1875 & 1880 respectively.
charles and betsy did not have children but the children born in their other marriages would makes up the 4 living and 3 dead children indicated on the return.
