  christened within the reg states father is robert a private in the Hertford 49th foot
  I have found an army time line for the 49th on ‘the wardrobe' site which shows the regiment arriving in Clonmel on 10 Oct and redeployed to cork by end November 1817. The regiment is recorded as leaving Bristol on Nov 5 1821 and heading to Chatham. The records show that his father, Robert, left the army in 1821. This fits the facts we know and fits in with brother josephs’ christening details of 27 Oct 1822.
  49th Regiment / 1st Royal Berkshire 10 October 1817 On 10 Oct 1817, Ireland, Clonmel. Regiment deployed at Clonmel. During November detachments were withdrawn and Regiment assembled at Cork, from where detachments were deployed to Charles Fort and Monkstown
