c. Note:   800 before she was married. They bought a wagon and a team of oxen, then drove the 300 miles to Byron, taking all their worldly possessions with them. The trip must have taken them a long time, as there were few roads, mostly trails to follow besides many rivers to cross. One can only surmise that there must have been a lot of problems and no doubt great pleasure in knowing they were going to their own home. When they arrived at their cabin, they set up housekeeping, but the mosquitoes were so bad near the spring they forced Johann to move his cabin to the top of the hill, which gave them a little more respite from those pests. During the following years, Johann and Ingeborg prospered. They built up a large herd of cattle and many horses. The 1870 Census lists Johann's land as worth $3,000 and personal belongings at $700. They continued buying land and owned over 400 acres at the time of Johann's death in 1890. Johann and Ingeborg's union was blessed with four children born from 1857 through 1865. The log cabin was too small, so Johann built a two story brick house in 1877, which is still in use today.
Ingeborg's sister married Hans Levick (Lovick).
Note:   Ingeborg had worked for $1.50 a week before her marriage and had saved $
