  The following notes were found on the Internet...CONFEDERATE SOUTH CAROLINA TROOPS
  "5th Regiment,South Carolina Cavalry (Ferguson's)...5th Cavalry Regiment was organized in January, 1863, by consolidating the 14th and 17th Battalions South Carolina Cavalry. For a time it served in the Department of South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida, then in March, 1864, moved to Virginia with 1,200 effectives. Assigned to Butler's Brigade, the regiment fought in THE WILDERNESS CAMPAIGN, the battlesw about COLD HARBOR, and south of the JAMES RIVER. Latre it was active in the campaign of the Carolinasand attached to Logan's Brigade. The 5th Cavalry surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. Its commanding officers were Colonels Zemmerman Davis, John Donovant, and Samuel W. FErguson; Lieutenant Colonels J. C. Edwards and Robert J. Jeffords; and Major Joseph H. Morgan.
  age 21 SJMR 5/E DBN/B PVT/PVT/PVT Georgetown...Enlisted at McClellanville, SC, 17 Mar 1862. Reported in Dosmounted Bn., 31 Aug 1864. Last recorded on clothing receipt roll, dated 1 Dec 1864. Farming at Black River, GeorgetownCo., SC in 1880.
Note:   Served during the Civil War in the 5th South Carolina Cavalry Regiment (Ferguson's Regiment), Company 5/E as a Private. He was wounded in action at Drewry's Bluff, VA, 16 May 1864. (WWW.ehistory.co
