They were married six months later, May 3, 1918. The Ridners moved to Monroe in 1936. Sunday the two will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with a reception from 1 to I 5 p.m. in the LaSalle Zion Evangelical United Brethern Church Hall, Yargerville and Strasburg Rds Friends, relatives and, neighbors are invited. Mrs. Oka Stanfill, Mrs. Joe (F. Rose) Payne, Mrs. Gilbert ( (Eva) Pierce, Matt Ridner Jr.,all of Monroe; Nolan Ridner of LaSalle; Dale P. Ridner of South Lyon, and Ancel R. Ridner of South Bend, Ind., their children, are making the arrangements. There are 18 grandchildren and 7 greatgrandchildren. George Washington and Florence Wages Ridner were the parents of Matt, 69, born Oct. 9, 1898, in Whitley County, Ky. Matt's father cut mining timber and Matt started to work in the R. O. Campbell Coal Co. mine, when he was eight years old. Matt put in an 11 hour day, for $1. 75 each, six days a week. The Ridner family moved to Chenoa and in 1916 went on to Indiana, Matt worked in a clay factory. He joined his family, who had returned to Chenoa, in December, 1917, when he first saw Nellie. The Ridners and Bullocks were neighbors and it wasn't long before Matt asked Nellie for a date. Her grandfather, the Rev. J. C. Bullock, a Missionary Baptist minister performed the wedding ceremony in the home of her parents, Thomas and Catherine Robertson Bullock. Her sister, Mabel Bullock, and, Letcher West were the witnesses. Matt worked as an elecirical engineer in a mine power house until 1922 when they moved to Harlan, Ky., and he became foreman of the Black Mountain Coal Co. They ran a grocery store in Verda, Ky., from 1927 until they moved to Michigan. He was employed at the Consolidated Paper Co.'s Monroe South plant (now Consolidated Packaging Corp.) for 15 years. In 1945 they bought a grocery store on Peters St. with living quarters above. They sold the store and Matt worked for the civil service in 1951. The next year he started with the Detroit Stoker Co. retiring in 1957. He is employed parttime by the Salvation Army. Prior to October, 1966, when they bought a mobile home and moved to Pleasantviile Park, they lived at 1816 Bayview Dr. Both are members of the Missionary Baptist Church. Matt was formerly a member of the Untied Mine Workers Union, Woodsmen of the World, Redman and Independent Order of the Oddfellows. He likes gardening. She enjoys sewing and has made many quilts. Nellie, 72, Was born April 8, 1896, at Mount Vemon, Ky. Herman and Robert Bullock, both of Monroe, Homer Bullock and Mrs. Estil (Grace) Mullins of Kentucky and Mrs. Steve (Ollie) Williams of Tennessee are her brothers and sisters. One sister and two brothers have passed away. Glenn Ridner of Detroit and Mrs. Cubey (Minnie) Elliott of Kentucky are his brother and sister. Four brothers and two , sisters have passed away. Noah M. Ridner Sr. Noah Matt Ridner Sr., 75, of 6 , George Dr., Pleasantville Park, died at 1:10 p.m. yesterday in the Memorial Hospital Unit where he had been since Oct. 6. He had been in poor health several years and seriously ill two months. Friends may call after 4 p.m. tomorrow in the Allore Funeral Home where services will be at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. E. E. Patterson, retired pastor of Monroe Missionar Baptist Church, and the Rev. Von Loop of the Evergreen Acres Missionary Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery, LaSalle. The son of Goerge and Florence Overton Ridner, he was born Oct. 9, 1898, in Bell County, Ky. He married Nellie Mae Bullock May 3, 1917, in Shoenoa, Ky. He came to Monroe in 1931 and retired in 1962 from Detroit Stoker Co. Surviving are his wife; four sons, Nolan Ridner Sr. of LaSalle, Dale Ridner of South Lyons, and Noah M. Ridner Jr. and Roger Ridner, both of Monroe; three daughters, Mrs. Everett (Oka) Strunk, Mrs. Joe (Forest Rose) Payne and Mrs. Eva Pierce, all of Monroe; 16 grandchildren, and 15 greatgrandchildren. Mr. Ridner was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and four brothers.
