  James Steele died November 24, 1903, in Evanston, age eighty four years and two months. Funeral from his late residence 1239 Maple Avenue, Evanston by electric car to Oakwood Cemetery, Waukegan Thursday, November 25, 1903. Mr. Steele was born in Scotland in 1818 and came to Lake County when but a young man. In 1849 he went to California with the gold seekers, returning to Old Port Clinton, now Highland Park, where he has since resided. His one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Vickerman survives him.
