Note: Duncan - Simpson: The marriage of Mr. William H. Duncan and Miss Cassie Belle Simpson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Simpson, occurred at the home of the bride's parents at 1153 East Taylor Street, Tuesday evening, July 3. The parlors were profusely decorated with roses, evergreens and potted plants; the bay window being converted into a bower, from the center an anchor of roses was suspended. At 9:30 Miss Lulu Brigham began the wedding march. The bridal couple, accompanied by Miss Ruth Simpson, sister of the bride, as maid of honor, and Mr. C. A. Simpson, her brother, as best man, took their places under the anchor in the bay window, and Rev. McKeever performed the marriage ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan will be at home to their friends on Wednesday after July 9. (The Oregon Journal, Portland, Oregon, 5 July 1894) Golden Wedding Celebrated Here: In celebration of their golden wedding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Duncan were honored at a reception Sunday, July 2, 1944 at the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Lieut. and Mrs. C. R. Vanderpool. Joint hosts were their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Duncan of East Lansing, Mich., and their daughter-in-law, Mrs. H. M. Duncan. Flowers in gold shades centered the table. Several granddaughters of Mr. Duncan assisted in serving. Out of town guests included Mr. Duncan's sister, Mrs. Dora Dean of Beverly Hills, Cal., and Mrs. Duncan's brother, Mr. C. A. Simpson of Condon, Ore. Sixteen of the guests attended the Duncan's wedding 50 years ago in Portland. Monday, July 3, which was the date of the wedding, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Simpson and Mr. and Mrs. T. F. Haley were hosts at a dinner at the Haley home on honor of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan, who have lived here since their marriage except for one year they spent in Michigan. (The Oregon Journal, Portland, Oregon, July 4, 1944) Duncan - Oct 19: Mrs. C. Belle, late of 2819 SE 35th Ave; wife of W. H. Duncan, mother of Mrs. C. R. Vanderpool, H. M. Duncan, Dr. C. W. Duncan; sister of C. A. and G. H. Simpson, Mrs. T. F. Haley; also 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Friends invited to attend funeral services Monday, 2:30 P. M., in the Drawing Room Chapel of Holman & Lutz Colonial Mortuary, NE 14th & Sandy, Internment Rose City. (The Oregon Journal, Portland, Oregon, October 20, 1944) Oregon Death Certificate 3626/3629: C. Belle Duncan died at 12:15 am, Oct 19, 1944, at the residence of her daughter, Lucille Duncan-Vanderpool, 3118 NE 32 Ave, Portland, Oregon from a Coronary sclerosis. Have also heard her first name as Catherine, but all censuses have Cassie and her headstone only has C. Belle. She apparently did not like the name Cassie and always went by Belle. I believe it was mom that referred to her as Catherine. Confused about a possible baby daughter I had heard about, stillborn after 1902 for William & Cassie. Supposedly buried in Lone Fir Cemetery, but there is no record there of a burial. Also the 1900 and 1910 censuses show children as 3/2 and 4/3, which would not include another child.
