After that, Arthur Taylor descendants owned land in Nash Co NC and in Edgecombe Co NC. Deeds dated before Nov 1777 with references to Nash Co NC had those references added when the deeds were recorded, after 1 Apr 1778. Wilson Taylor, Sr., was born May 1749-Apr 1753 in Edgecombe Co NC or in Southampton Co VA, son of Arthur Taylor and Faith (Foster?). Arthur Taylor of Edgecombe Co NC sold Southampton Co VA land on 13 Feb 1755, “75 acres where said Arthur now lives,” so it is hard to determine where Arthur Taylor was living in 1749-1753, the years before his mother Ann (Wilson?) Taylor Magot (Maget) died in Surry Co VA (in 1754). Arthur Taylor married Faith (Foster?) before 12 Mar 1747 and was still married to her on 13 Feb 1755. Concerning Faith (Foster?) Taylor: on 5 Nov 1743 the Will of Simon Everitt was witnessed by William Bynum, Elizabeth Bynum and Faith Taylor (Proved 12 Mar 1746/47, Isle of Wight Co VA). “At a court held for the county of Southampton on Thursday the 13th Day of February 1755 . . . acknowledged by the within named Arthur Taylor and Ordered to be Recorded. And Faith the wife of said Arthur . . .” (per 13 Feb 1755 deed, Arthur Taylor to Thomas Turner, Southampton Co VA). This is from an abstract online but not checked: on 10 Feb 1757 Arthur Taylor sold James Barham 150 acres (in Southampton Co VA) on the south side of the Nottoway River adjoining the main road to John Foster’s line and Charles Barham, part of a tract which John Foster purchased of Joseph Holt on 23 Sep 1728 and which John Foster divided (devised) in his will to Arthur Taylor (a relative). Note: there was also a son Arthur Foster, and Foster might have been abstracted as Taylor. If it was Taylor then the deed possibly meant that the land was devised to daughter Faith Foster/Taylor and thereby reverted to her husband, Arthur, although I have found nothing in abstracts to support that Faith Foster was married to a Taylor, via her father’s will and records. Abstracts are sometimes wrong. Wilson Taylor might have been named for his grandmother Ann (Wilson?) Taylor Magot (Maget), her will 1752/1754, Surry Co VA. He was not in that will but his father, sister and cousin William Wilson Taylor, among many others, were. Two of her grandsons carried the first or middle name Wilson. Wilson Taylor, Sr.’s birth -- In Edgecombe Co NC court minutes by Weynette Parks Haun: on 15 Oct 1766 (130, p 45) Wilson Taylor chose his own guardian, John Taylor; on the Wednesday after the fourth Tuesday in May 1770 (267, p 89) there was a long entry concerning the suit of John Taylor guardian of Wilson Taylor against Thomas Carter, garnishee; on the following Friday (271, p 90) there was an entry containing locations and names (including Wilson Taylor’s) that showed where he lived in May 1770 and who his neighbors were; on 20 Apr 1774 Wilson Taylor was appointed Constable (391, p 128) and on 19 Apr 1775 (18, p 7) he was reappointed Constable. (Wilson Taylor was 12-16 years old on 15 Oct 1766, born before 15 Oct 1750-1754. He was apparently still under 21 in May 1770, born in/after May 1749. He was 21 by 20 Apr 1774, born before 20 Apr 1753. Altogether, he was born in/after May 1749 and before 20 Apr 1753, or May 1749-Apr 1753.) Wilson Taylor, Sr., was probably alive on 11 Feb 1824 as Nash Co NC court minutes had “Wilson Taylor Jr,” juror (per Rackley) and court minutes would not have used Jr if Sr had died or moved away. Court minutes for 13 May 1825 had “. . . Mark Strickland (who was the Security of Wilson Taylor Senr in the Suit of Demsey Taylor) . . .” (per Rackley). Wilson Taylor, Sr., was not necessary alive on 13 May 1825 and those minutes suggest that he might have been deceased by that date. Another abstract online showed that: “Christopher Taylor’s will was written 31 May 1808, proved Nash County, Sept Court 1822 . . . Probated by John Ricks and Archibald Lamon who proved the handwriting of Wilson Taylor, Sr.” That suggests that Wilson Taylor, Sr., might have died by Sep 1822 or was unable to get to court. He might have been “William Taylor Senior” in the 1820 FC for Nash Co NC as there was a “Wilson Taylor Junior” in that FC. Based upon the records below, this should have been the chain of events: 1)in Oct 1779 Milly Moore Clinch, widow of Edward Clinch, was made guardian of her three Clinch children; 2)by 25 May 1783 Wilson Taylor, Sr., had married (1st) Sarah Moore (per her father’s will); 3)in Feb 1785 Joseph J. I think that Wilson Taylor, Sr., was probably “William Taylor Senior” in Nash Co in the 1820 FC. Note on orphans and guardians: an orphan was a child under the age of 21 who had lost a parent and who had an inheritance (for instance, from a grandparent or an uncle), and an orphan without an inheritance did not need a court-ordered guardian. A father or mother of an orphan had to be accepted by a court as a guardian. Below, Wilson Taylor, Sr., had to be accepted as a guardian of his children with his 1st wife, Sarah Moore, as she had received an inheritance from her father, “little” Edward Moore, and her children were supposed to get that inheritance after they became 21 (which is why Wilson Taylor, Sr., had to become the guardian of his own children, in this case about six years or more after his wife Sarah had apparently died). Milley Moore Clinch, Wilson’s 2nd wife, was the guardian of her children with Edward Clinch, as they had inheritances from their deceased father, but she was later ordered to give up that guardianship by the court in Feb 1785 (reason not stated) but possibly because she was about to marry Wilson Taylor, Sr., as they were married by Oct 1885 (per her father’s will). Apparently Milley Moore Clinch Taylor had died by 6 Aug 1804 when the children she had with Wilson Taylor, Sr., received an inheritance previously given to her son, Horatio G. Clinch, deceased by 6 Aug 1804. Only the children Wilson, Sr., had with Sarah Moore were to receive her previous inheritance from her father, and only the children Wilson, Sr., had with Milley Moore Clinch were to receive the Clinch inheritance from Edward Clinch (her deceased first husband). In that case, the inheritance of Horatio G. Clinch, deceased, reverted to his mother, also deceased, and then went to his mother’s later children (all identified as the children of Wilson Taylor). Wilson Taylor, Sr., had two sets of children, each set with a different inheritance, in addition to daughter Milley (Clinch or Taylor) who seems not to have been around by 6 Aug 1804 (assuming she was not Hannah Clinch/Taylor Merritt). She married Hillery R. CAISON in Sampson County on 7 Dec 1865. My mother is a Durham County POPE. My POPE line started out in Edgecombe County where my Josiah POPE died in 1805. It is possible that some of his descendants migrated south to Sampson County. My REEVES line was in Granville County before 1751 before moving to Orange County.
