  Ray,
 What a tangled mess this is.
  Charles A. Taylor is listed as the son of Allen Taylor In Nash County DB 22
 page 249: March 18, 1875: Division of the lands of Allen Taylor, deceased,
 by mutual consent among his sons, March 15, 1875. William B. Taylor received
 a tract of 278 acres; Augustus W. Taylor, 203 acres; Charles A. Taylor 203
 acres.
  He is also on the 1902 Nash County Voter Registration List â_" South Whitakers
 Township as C. A. Taylor, 56 descending through Allen Taylor. Also on this
 list is H. A. Taylor 24 descending through C. A. Taylor
  Now the real tangles: Allen appears to have been married to Emily Harrell as
 he was listed as a son-in-law of Lucretia Harrell whose will was recorded in
 May Ct. 1838. She was listed as daughter Emily Taylor. I can not find a
 marriage record for them in Nash County.
  Emily was apparently deceased by the 1850 Nash County Census #844. Allen is
 listed as 56 with the following Taylors in his household. William A. 22;
 Winniford 18; John F. 19; Allen C. 16; Rebecca A. 14; Wilson 10; Quilly 9.
  In household #839 is Sarah J. Edwards 44. In her household are the following
 Edwards: Sarah J. 44; Sarah 13; Eveline 11; Allen 1843; Charles A. 4 and
 Henry J. T. 2
  Sarah is the widow of Cullen Edwards who died between 1842 and 1844.
 Sarah is the daughter of William Pope and was listed as Mrs. Sarah Edwards in
 1842 in the estate records of William Pope. Allen Taylor was a buyer at the
 estate sale of Sarah Pope wife of William. Mary Eveline and Sara A. E. are
 listed as two of the orphans of Cullen Edwards and had guardians bonds for
 1844. They are on the 1850 census with Sarah as well as Allen, Charles A,
 and Henry J.T.
  Father: Allen Taylor
 ·
 Mother: Emily Harrell
 ·
  Marriage 1 Sarah Frances Wells b: 3 DEC 1845
 ·
 · Children:
 ·
  ·
 · - Nannie Herrietta Taylor b: 8 MAY 1876
 ·
  ·
  ·
  · - Henry Albert Taylor b: 14 JUN 1878 in Nash County, North Carolina
 ·
  ·
  ·
  · - Dorsey Whitehead Taylor b: 19 MAR 1880 in Nash County, North Carolina
 ·
  ·
  ·
  · - Bettie Allen Taylor b: 24 NOV 1882 in Nash County, North Carolina
 ·
  ·
  ·
  · - Rufus Ansel Taylor b: 3 MAR 1884 in Nash County, North Carolina
 ·
  ·
  ·
  · - Fannie Mae Taylor b: 8 OCT 1886 in Nash County, North Carolina
 ·
  ·
  ·
  · - Thaddeus Bryant Taylor b: 12 MAY 1888 in Nash County, North Carolina
  ·
  · Moving on to the 1860 Nash County Census Allen Taylor is listed as 66. In
 his household are Jackey Edwards (who is Sarah J.) 55. Fox Edwards; Charles
 13; Ben 11; and William 9. (The last 3 are the ones that Allen listed as his
 sons in the division of his estate.
  The question now is: Did Allen marry Sara Pope Edwards? There isnâ_Tt a
 marriage records in Nash County for them.
  On the 1870 Nash County census Allen is listed as 77. In his household is
 Charles Taylor 22; Augustus 22 (which is Benjamin) and William Taylor 18.
  On the 1880 Nash County Census, Allen is listed as 89 and his son Augustus is
 30 and living with him. 2 doors down is C. A. and Sarah F. 30
 Nannie 4; Henry A. 3 and Daisey born Mar. Also Martin T. Pope 67 and wife
 Sidney Pope 67 are in his household.
  My guess is that Allen Taylor is the father of Charles A. and Sally Edwards
 (Pope). It is not known if they did marry. Allen apparently decided to give
 his land to his second family.
  Allen is the son of Reuben Taylor whose will was probated in Sep Ct. 1822. He
 list his wife, Winnifred and 9 children Penelope Pope, Dempsey Taylor,
 Elizabeth Whitehead, Kinchin Taylor, Polly House, Reuben Taylor Jr., Jesse
 Taylor (for his children); William Taylor and Allen Taylor.
  Allen apparently had 12 children in addition to the last 3 by Sarah:
 ·
 - James W.,
 · - Reuben S.
 · - Pennina;
 · - Allen C.;
 · - Elizabeth (married John W. Pope)
 · - Sally (married Cofield Mason;
 · - Rebecca Ann;
 · - William A.;
 · - Wilson A.;
 · - John F.A;
 · - Albina;
 · - Wineford A.
 ·
  ·
  · These were listed in a deed in Edgecombe Co in the
 division of some land. Land owner is not listed. From this we can assume
 that Reuben came out of Edgecombe County or was in that part of Edgecombe
 that became Nash.
  * Allen Taylor is listed as been married to a Rebecah, granddaughter of James
 Stallings as shown in his will in May Ct. 1834. This will is in Edgecombe
 County.
  I hope this helps.
  Helen Sharpe
