 SOUTHERN PINES -- Thomas Henry Wilson, of New Bern, born December 10, 1922 in Southern Pines, NC, died Monday, August 28, 2000, at home.
  He was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church and participated in various church functions including church treasurer and trustee. "Tom" was a member of Doric Lodge #568 New Bern Scottish Rite Bodies and Sudan Temple. As a Shriners Roadrunner he accumulated in excess of 110 trips to the Shriners Crippled Childrens Hospital in Greenville, SC, where he transported children for medical care. He was honored and pleased to have a part in this organization and to watch children improve in health from handicap conditions.
  As a veteran of World War II time spent in Europe including landing in Casablanca Christmas eve 1942 and Liverpool, England in 1943. He sailed from South Hampton to Omaha Beach in France in 1944. He was active duty during the invasion of Normandy. Following this he relocated to Holland and from there his tour of duty was in Germany. He was in Berlin during the Potsdam Conference immediately following the war.
  He is survived by his wife, Genevieve W. Wilson of the home, daughter Carolyn Cannon and husband, Billy, of Moorehead City; daughter, Phyllis W. Whitehurst of New Bern; son, Bill Wilson of Grantsboro; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Vivian Smith of Southern Pines; a sister, Algene W. Swan of Lakeland, Florida and a brother, Julian Wilson of Aberdeen, NC.
