Allen T. Carter was born in 1828.1,2 He was the son of John T. Carter and Molly Roller.1 Allen T. Carter married Susan Bledsoe in 1852.3,4 Allen T. Carter died in 1862.1,2
Allen was killed in the Civil War while serving in the Confederate Army. The date of his death suggests that he possibly died at he Battle of Ft. Donelson but I have not been able to verify that. There were several units from Lee County and Scott County, Va. engaged in that battle.

" Susan Carter, mother of B.D. Carter, A.H. Carter, and Mary Carter Roller, died Feb. 17th, 1906. She was about 75 years of age. Her husband, Allen Carter was called away from her by the hand of death during the civil war while her three children were quite small; she remaining a widow until her death. Notwithstanding she was alone during these perilous times, she managed her affairs well, raised her children creditably, and lived to see them all heads of families, and in easy circumstances"
