Cox Geneology: John Carter was born in 1774.1 He was the son of Norris Carter and Agnes Allen.2 John Carter aquired a grant for 400 acres 10/2/1798. Purchased 120 acres on the southside of the Clinch from Thomas and Rebecca Eastland on 10/5/1807 and 200 acres on the southside of the Clinch from Joseph and Sarah Whitely on December 16,1808. Bought 58 acres from David Cock, Sr. on March 1813 and on January 25, 1815 10 acres from Samuel Ewing. John and Sarah sold land as follows: 1/3/1803 to Joseph Carter -- 75 acres; 6/171809 130 acres to William Cock; 2/20/1810 to Isaiah Solyers 120 acres. Of property on 2 October 1798.3 He married Sarah Frazier before 1803.3,1 John Carter married Molly Roller, daughter of (?)
