Note: Juanita Blitchington Jenkins, 79, of Bandera peacefully passed away March 15, 2014 in her home at the Silver Spur Dance Hall Ruins. She was born April 30, 1934 in Aiken, S.C., the youngest daughter of Bennie and Julia Beard Blitchington. She was married for thirty years to the late Col. William M. Jenkins, Jr. Their love of the Texas Hill Country brought Nita and Bill to Bandera in 1976. After the death of her son and husband, she moved away for four years to be closer to family but her heart never left and she returned. Her heaven on earth was Bandera, Texas. She proudly purchased the historic Silver Spur Dance Hall Ruins and restored the surrounding cabins. Nita became a successful bed and breakfast owner while living out her dream. She loved this town so much, she ran and was elected at the age of 79 to the Bandera City Council. Nita was preceded in death by her husband Bill Jenkins; and her son Bruce Jenkins. She is survived by her son Keith and his wife Pat Jenkins of San Antonio; her daughters Geri and her husband Richard Buckelew of Medina, Julie and her husband Donnie Barnett of Friendswood; her grandchildren Jon Campbell of Indiana, Chelsea and Kacy Bernstein of California, Shraddah Reyna of North Carolina, Joshua and Nellie Jenkins, Micah and Emily Jenkins, Levi and Katie Jenkins, and Debbie and Juan Garcia, all of San Antonio, Janet and Mike Williamson of Spring, Pete and Julie Nealley of North Carolina, and Jill and Frank Saia of New Hampshire. She is also survived by her niece Pat Ryder of Virginia and many great grandchildren. Nita adored her family and loved to share her wisdom, life lessons and interests with them. The family of Nita Jenkins wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the dedicated Peterson Hospice staff. A private burial will be held at Bandera Cemetery. Her family will hold a Celebration of Life in her honor. In lieu of flowers they ask that memorials may be given to Peterson Hospice.
