 Prominent Gate City Citizen Succumbs
 J.C. Meade, Former Justice of Peace In Scott County Dies in Hospital
  Gate City, Va. July 7, 1937- J.C. Meade, well known and highly respected Gate City citizen died at the Holston Valley Hospital at Kingsport early today, following a decline in health of several months. He was taken to the hospital Monday for treatment.
 He was a native of Scott County and a son of Charles C and Mary Heaberlin Meade, both parents were members of families that settled early in this section, and who have been active in it's affairs.
 He served as Justice of the Peace in Powell magisterial district for eight years, and was elected in 1935 for a second term as justice in Estillville magisterial district. He has lived in Gate City for the past several years. He was a member of the Methodist Church and was active in all church and civic affairs.
 Funeral services will be held at M.E. Church here and internment will be at Lawson Cemetery near Snowflake, Va. A definite date for the funeral has not been fixed, awaiting the arrival of relatives.
 Surviving are his wife Barbara E. Meade and the following children: Mrs. L.C. Baker, E.A. Meade, C.T. Meade, all of Gate City, Va.; P.A. Meade and J.C. Meade, Jr., Kingsport, Tenn.; B.H. Meade, Appalachia, Va.; Mrs. A.T. Carter, Blackwater, Va., W.A Meade, Pennington Gap,Va.; H.K. Meade, Flint, Mich.; also a half sister, Mrs. Thomas Strong, Roda, Virginia.
