 It may be interesting to you that when Anna V. died our mother, Lizzy Belle, took over as the housekeeper and second mother to the rest of the children. When G. W., her father, died the children went in various directions to live with whoever would care for them. Aunt Grace and Uncle Byrum were placed in the Tennessee Industrial School. Of course, Gracie made the best of the situation but Byrum ran away. He did not like being in school where he had to abide by the rules and regulations. He was a very independent person all his life. He did what he wanted to do and if any rules were to be followed those rules were the ones he made to be followed. This is in no way being critical; it's just a fact that his life ended in tragedy.
