Note: Lies on Tracks, Killed by Train (The Register's Iowa News Service) Davenport, IA. --- A man identified by papers in his pocket as Alex Dunn, 92, was killed here Saturday afternoon by a Rock Island train at a crossing in West Davenport. Three witnesses told police they saw the victim lying on the tracks in front of a westbound freight train. Apparently the train crew didn't see the victim. The train didn't stop. <=====> Plan Inquest Into Death of Train Victim An inquest was being planned today into the death of Alex Dunn, 92, of 527 West Thirteenth street, Davenport, who was killed Saturday Afternoon when run over by a Rock Island Lines freight train at Fifth and Brown streets. Scott County Coroner C. H. Wildman said he was conducting an investigation and when it is completed an inquest probably would be held. Several witnesses told police that the victim deliberately lay down on the tracks as the train approached, but Coroner Wildman said he was informed that Dunn often expressed a hope that he would live to be 100 years of age. The coroner said he had been unable to find a motive for Dunn wanting to commit suicide. "There is a possibility that he may have suffered a heart attack and collapsed," Wildman asserted. Witnesses told police that Dunn lay down on the east side of the crossing as the train approached from the east. The train crew apparently didn't see the man as the train didn't stop. The body was dragged about 50 feet. Among the witnesses were Elmer Wheeler, 816 West Fifth street; Mrs. Charles Berleman, 806 West Fifth street, and Mr. And Mrs. Herman Peterson, 513 Brown street.
