Text: MRS THOMAS DORAN One of the oldest identities of the Capella district in the person of Mrs Thomas Doran passed away recently at her residence, Chirnside. Although in her 89th year, Mrs Doran enjoyed excellent health to within a few days of her death. Mrs Doran was born at Everton, near Liverpool, Lancashire, on May 10, 1849, and came to Australia in the steamer Cornorta in October, 1881. The early part of her life was spent at Blackwater, Pine Hill, and Clermont. She was married from Mrs Heard's residence in Clermont on November 11, 1885, to Mr T. Doran, who was employed on the Clermont Bridge. When the bridge was completed, Mr Doran went to Capella, where he was employed in the railway department for several years. He purchased a property at Chirnside and he and Mrs Doran had resided there for the past fifty years. The deceased lady was of a kindly disposition. She is survived by her husband, one son, Samuel Dorans, Chirnside, three daughters, Mrs E. M. Lewis (Rockhampton), Mrs J. F. Carroll, and Mrs Franks, Chirnside, 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. One granddaughter is a nun at St Joseph's Convent, Texas. The Rev. A. H. Freeman (Clermont) conducted service at the residence and officiated at the graveside. The remains were interred in the Capella cemetery.
