a. Note:   The sponsors at Jesse Johnson's baptism were his parents. Jesse's marriage to Marietta Long was announced in the "Argus" newspaper. In 1852, at the time of their marriage, they were both living in Upper Mount Bethel.
  In 1870 Jesse Johnson, age 41, was a farmer in Upper Mount Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA, with real estate valued at $5,000 and $600 of personal property. He was living with his wife, Mary E. Johnson age 37, and five Johnson children; John J. age 17, Peter age 15, Frances E. age 12, Ella age 8, and Mary Ann age 2. (1870 census, microfilm roll 1383, Northampton Co., PA., Upper Mount Bethel Twp., pg. 410, house #64)
  In 1880 Jesse Johnson, age 52 a farmer, and his wife, Maryette Johnson age 47, were still living in Upper Mt. Bethel Twp. Three children were living at home; daughter Ella Johnson age 18, daughter Mary N. Johnson age 12, and daughter Josephine Johnson age 7.   Jesse died intestate. The administrators of his estate were his widow, Marietta, and son, John I. Johnson. (Estate file #11956, Northampton County Government Center, Easton, PA)
  The date of birth on Jesse's tombstone in Riverview Cemetery is 19 September 1828. However, the church record of his baptism shows he was born 19 February 1828.
