Note: The sponsors at Charles Morey's baptism were Abraham Junken and his wife, Elisabeth. Charles Morey's marriage to Sarah Jane Long appeared in the "Argus" newspaper. In 1859 they were both living in Upper Mount Bethel. In 1870 Charles Morey, age 41, a farmer, was living in Upper Mount Bethel Twp., Northampton Co., PA, with real estate valued at $8,700 and personal property of $900. He was living with his wife, Sarah J. Morey, age 29, and two children; - Clara Morey, age 9 - Mahlon Morey, age 3 They were living three doors away from Charles' parents, Jacob and Catharine Morey. Everyone in the household was born in PA. (1870 census, microfilm roll M593_1383, Page 444B, house #616, family #670) In 1880 Charles, a farmer, and his wife, Sarah J., were still living in Upper Mount Bethel Twp. with three children; Clara, Mahlon, and George H. (1880 census, Northampton Co., PA, Upper Mount Bethel Twp., pg. 389, house #2) Charles Morey's obituary appeared in the 4 November 1889 issue of the "Easton Express". He was survived by his wife and three children. Charles died intestate. His widow, Sarah Jane, signed a renunciation turning over administration of Charles' estate to their son, Mahlon Morey. The estate was inventoried and personal property sold at auction. The vendue list shows primarily farm implements. The final account was filed 5 April 1892. (Estate file #12130, Northampton County Government Center, Easton, PA) On 4 December 1889 Mahlon Morey filed a petition in Northampton Co. orphans court requesting authorization to sell Charles' land in Upper Mt. Bethel Twp. The petition stated that Charles died intestate leaving a widow, Sarah, and three children; George H. Morey, a minor, Clara intermarried with Doc F. Smith, and Mahlon Morey. At the time of his death Charles owned five adjoining tracts of land which totalled 145 acres and 79 1/5 perches. The court approved the sale. On two subsequent occasions the land was advertised for sale but was not sold. Finally, after a third advertisement, it was reported on 2 November 1891 That the land was sold to William Morey for $3100.
