  Some time after his first wife, Permelia Morey, died, Jeremiah Hess married Ariella Beck. In 1870 Jeremiah Hess, age 26 a farmer, was living in Upper Mt. Bethel Twp. with his second wife Ariella (Beck) Hess age 23, and one daughter, Emma Hess age nine months.
