Note: John Wind and Hannah Best were married by Rev. Jacob C. Becker. In 1850 John Wind, age 50 a farmer, was living in Upper Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., PA, with his wife, Hannah Wind, age 31, and two children:
- Susannah C. Wind, age 9 - Joseph H. Wind, age 7 John owned property valued at $5,000. John's unmarried brother, Reuben Wind, age 20, a farmer, was also living with him, and was also listed as a farmer. (1850 census, microfilm roll M432-802, pg. 202, house #1, family #1))
Sometime before 1870 John Wind moved to Iowa. He went by the surname of Wint, instead of Wind.
In 1870 John Wint, b. in PA, age 51, a farmer, was living in Castle Grove, Jones Co., IA, with his son:

In 1880 John Wint, born in PA, age 61, a farmer, was living in Castle Grove, Jones Co., Iowa, with his second wife, Sarah Wint, b. in PA, age 38, born in PA, and two daughters, both born in Iowa:
- Lotta Wint age 6 - Carrie Wint age 1 Also listed in their household were three of John's step daughters and one step son; Mary A. Beck, b. in PA, age 19, Milton E. In 1900 John Wint, b. Aug 1819 in PA, age 70, was living in Boulder Twp., Linn Co., IA, with his second wife, Sarah Wint. b. Sep 1838 in PA, age 61. John and Sarah had been married for 27 years. Sara was the mother of 8 children, of whom 5 were living in 1900. (1900 census, Boulder, Linn Co., Iowa, Page 13, house #201, family #202)
John died intestate in Linn Co., IA. The administrators of his estate were his second wife, Sarah Wint, and Louis Gehringer. One of the documents in John's estate papers listed his heirs as: widow, Sarah Wint, age 62, of Prairieburg, Linn Co., IA; daughter, Lottie Amanda Brown, age 26, of Central City, Linn Co, IA; daughter, Carrie R. Caldwell, age 22, of Prairieburg, Linn Co., IA; and son, Joel Wint, age 50, of Colorado. John's estate was listed as a house and lot in Prairieburg valued at $550.00 and money of $1,500.00. (Note: John Wind may have divorced his first wife, Hannah (nee Best) Wind, before leaving for Iowa. In 1870 a Hannah Wind, age 60, was living alone in Catasauqua, Lehigh Co., PA. She was listed as a widow with real estate valued at $2,000 and personal property of $100. (1870 census, microfilm roll #1362, Lehigh Co., PA, pg. 266, Catasauqua, house #190.)
