Note: ord the location of their marriage. However, since Rev. Blumer served several churches in the area of what is now Lehigh Co., it can be assumed their marriage most likely took place in that locality. It is believed that, shortly after their marriage in 1786, Wilhelm and Elizabeth Morey left the Upper Saucon area of what is now Lehigh Co., PA, and initially settled in York Co., PA, in the area which is now Adams County, PA. (Adams Co. was formed in January of 1800 from York Co.) In 1788 and 1799 Wilhelm Morey appeared on the tax lists of Germany Twp., York Co., PA. In 1799 he was taxed for 20 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In 1800, 1804 and 1805 Wilhelm appeared on the tax lists for Germany Twp., Adams Co., PA. In 1800 he was a farmer with a good log barn and was taxed for 20 acres, 1 horse, and 4 cows. In 1804 he was taxed for 20 acres, 2 horses and 4 cows. In 1805 he had 20 acres, 2 horses and 3 cows. In the 1800 census, William "Morry" was listed in Germany Twp., Adams Co., PA. Listed in his household were 3 males under the age of 10, 1 male aged 26-45, 1 female under the age of 10, 2 females aged 10-15, 2 females aged 15-26, and 1 female aged 26-45. (Census pg. 513) The baptisms of eight of the ten children of Wilhelm and Elizabeth Morey appear in the records of Christ Reformed Church at Littlestown, which is in Germany Twp., Adams Co., PA. By 1808 it appears that Wilhelm and his family moved north into Cumberland Co., PA. The 1808 tax list for Rye Twp., Cumberland Co., PA, shows William Morrey with 300 acres, 3 horses, and 4 cows. The 1810 census shows a "William Moorey Sr." living in Rye Twp., Cumberland Co., PA. In 1820 Rye Twp. became part of Perry Co., PA. On 20 August 1827 "William" Morey purchased a tract of land in Southwestern Ohio. (Source: "Early Ohio Settlers" by Ellen T. Berry and David A. Berry, Geneal. Pub. Co., Inc., Baltimore, 1986, 372 pp.) Shortly thereafter, he moved to Mahoning Co., Ohio near the town of Canfield. Some of his children stayed in the Perry Co., PA, area and lived in Carroll, Wheatfield and Rye Townships. Wilhelm is buried in Row 8 of Old North Cemetery in Canfield, Ohio. In 1981 and 1982 it was reported that his tombstone was moss covered but still readable. His will was written 6 July 1839 and proved in 1848. "The will of William Mory was brought before a court - a special term begun and held 22 December 1848 in the courthouse at Canfield, OH." In his will, William mentioned his beloved wife, Elizabeth, and children; daughter Elizabeth Slough, daughter Catherine Kimmel, daughter Sarah Wipple (Hipple), daughter Susanna, son John, son Jacob, son Peter, son George, son William Mory's widow and heirs, and daughter Mary Murfey. The witnesses were Abraham Dustman and Josiah Dustman. The executors were son George Mory and Jacob Dustman. (Will Book 1, pg. 122, Mahoning Co., Ohio) (Genealogical Note: It has not been conclusively proven that the William Morey of Canfield, Ohio, is, in fact, the son of Wilhelm and Maria Barbara (Buchecker) Mory of Upper Saucon, PA. However, the year of birth of William of Canfield falls in the same generation as the other children of Wilhelm and Maria Barbara and the name of the wife of both William and Wilhelm was "Elizabeth". It is also notable that Wilhelm of Upper Saucon disappeared from public records in that area after his marriage in 1786 thus indicating that he moved elsewhere. The information in this genealogy regarding the descendants of William Morey of Canfield was provided by Alice M. Russell of Columbus, Ohio.)
