Note: p., Lehigh Co., PA, and moved to a farm somewhere near the present town of Bath, PA, in Northampton Co., PA, where John lived for the rest of his life. In a deed dated 28 May 1770, recorded 17 April 1778 in Northampton County, John (named as Johannes) purchased a tract of land of 100 acres in Bethlehem Twp. from Mary Newton, widow, and Edward Newton, both of Bethlehem Twp. The land was part of the great tract of 5000 acres known as the "Nazareth Tract" and had been granted to Henry Newton and Mary, his wife, by indenture dated 1 April 1774 from Nathaniel Seidel and Anna Johanna, his wife. (Northampton Co. deeds, vol. 1C, page unnumbered) John (aka. Johannes) was a farmer. In 1772 he appeared on the proprietary tax list in Allen Twp., Northampton Co. In the 1780 tax list, he appeared in Bethlehem Twp. In the first federal census of 1790, John was living in Nazareth Twp. in Northampton Co., PA. Living in his household were one male over the age of 16 years and five females. At the time of his death in 1819 he owned 100 acres of land in Nazareth Twp. and 23 acres in Moore Twp., both in Northampton Co., PA. John (aka. Johannes) Wind and his wife attended communion services at Dryland Church, Hecktown, on various dates from April of 1786 to May of 1801. They also appeared as the sponsors (godaparents) of children of other families who were baptized between 1780 and 1801. Johannes left a will, written 23 July 1817, in which he gave his only son, John, the two tracts of land in Nazareth and Moore Townships. His will also mentioned his five daughters: Clara Catharina, Susanna, Elizabeth, Rosina and Sybilla. (Estate file #3301, will book 4, pg. 556, Northampton County Government Center, Easton, PA) Several of the children of Johannes and Susanna (Mory) Wint spelled their name "Wind" but some later generations of this family line reverted back to the "Wint" spelling. Almost all of the family descendants from Lehigh Co. retained the "Wint" spelling. John (Johannes) and his wife, Susanna Catharina (Mory) Wint/Wind are buried in the old graveyard at Dryland Church at Hecktown, Lower Nazareth Twp., Northampton Co., PA. All of the tombstones in this part of the Dryland Church cemeteries were removed years ago. The names and years of birth and death of the persons buried there are now shown on two large billboards.
