Note: h him were his wife, Caroline Wilt age 24, and two Wilt children; James H. age 4 and Mary E. age 1. Also listed in their household were Matilda L. Weil age 21, Owen Focht age 13, John Ochs age 26 a merchant, and Manasses Ochs age 19 a clerk. (1850 census, microfilm roll #792, Lehigh Co., PA, Upper Saucon Twp., pg. 203A, house #170) In 1870 James Wilt, age 51 was the landlord of a hotel in Upper Saucon Twp. He was living with his wife, Caroline Wilt age 45, and children; Richard Wilt age 16, Alfred Wilt age 15, John D. Wilt age 13 and Harry Wilt age 8. Also listed there were daughter Mary (Wilt) Houck age 21, now married to Milton Houck age 31, who was working as a clerk, and their son, William Houck age 9 months. Boarding at the hotel was Henry Transue age 25, a miner. (1870 census, microfilm roll #1363, Lehigh Co., PA, Upper Saucon Twp., pg. 637, house #405) In 1880 James Wilt, age 61, was still operating a hotel in Upper Saucon Twp. and living with his wife, Carolina Wilt age 54, and two unmarried sons; Harry Wilt age 18 a laborer and Richard Wilt age 27, who was a cigar maker.
