Peter Strauss was married to Lydia Newhard by Rev. Joseph S. Dubs. At the time of their marriage in 1835, Peter was living in North Whitehall, Lehigh Co., PA.
In 1850 Peter Strauss age 41, a farmer, was living in North Whitehall Twp., Lehigh County, PA with his wife, Li (Lidia) Strauss age 33, and one child:
- James W. Strauss, age 12 Also listed in their household were: Alfred Lorash, age 15; and Elisabeth Newhard, age 23. Peter owned real estate valued at $2700. (1850 census, microfilm roll #792, pg. 260, house #4)
In 1860 Peter Strauss (listed as Straus), b. in PA, age 51, a farmer, was living in North Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., PA, with his wife, Lydia Strauss, b. in PA, age 45, and one child:

In 1870 Peter Strauss (listed as Strause), age 61, a farmer, was still living in North Whitehall Twp. with his wife, Lydia Strauss, age 55. They owned real estate valued at $9,000 and had personal property of $5,653. Also living on their farm were their married son James Strauss, age 32, and his wife, Abbie Strauss, age 25; Peter's single sister Susan Strauss, age 70; Daniel Jacoby, age 18, who worked on the farm; and Nettie Schaffer, age 20, a domestic servant. In 1880 Peter Strauss' widow, Lydia Strauss, age 65, was living In North Whitehall Twp., Lehigh Co., PA. Also listed in her household were their married son, James W. Strauss age 42, and his wife, Abby (listed as Abyesinia) Strauss age 33, and two of their children;
- daughter Jennetta Strauss, age 8 - son Allen Peter Strauss, age 5. Also listed in the same household was Deutelene Miller age 13 a servant. Everyone in the household was born in PA.(1880 census, National Archives Film T9-1147, Page 529B, house #121, family #134)
Peter left a will which was probated in Lehigh Co. The executors of his estate were his widow, Lydia, son James W. Strauss, and grandson Allen P. Strauss (Estate file #5296, Lehigh County Courthouse, Allentown, PA)
