  Philip J. Gerber, Jr. and Susanna Saeger were married at St. Paul's (Indianland) church by Rev. Friederich Wilhelm Meendsen.
  Philip Jacob Gerber Jr. lived on his father's homestead until around 1836 when he and his family, along with his wife's brother, Jacob Sager/Saeger, joined a wagon train headed for Ohio. Philip purchased land in Washington Twp., Sandusky Co., Ohio and established a farm where he lived from 1840 to 1854. The family belonged to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lindsey, Ohio.
  In 1850 Philip Gerber (listed as Garber), b. in PA, age 40, a farmer, was living in Washingon Twp., Sandusky Co., OH, with his wife, Susanah Gerber, age 40, and nine childen, all born in PA:
 - Wm Gerber, age 21, a farmer - Julia Gerber, age 19 - Sally Gerber, age 17 - Eliza Gerber, age 15 - David (Daniel) Gerber, age 13 - Carolin Gerber, age 10 - Edwin Gerber, age 8 - John Gerber, age 6 - Catharine Gerber, age 3 (1850 census, microfilm roll M432_726, Page 3A, house #1583, family #1613)
  Around 1854 Philip bought 200 acres of land in Claremont Twp., Richland Co., Illinois. His property adjoined that of Jacob Sager, who also purchased a 200 acre tract. Philip Jr. helped build the local school and church. He continued farming and also operated a saw mill with the Sager brothers up until the time of his death in 1858.
  Philip Jr. died at the age of 53 (possibly of cholera).
  After Philip's death, his widow, Susanna, and their children stayed on the farm. Susanna bought several additional tracts of land.
  In 1860 Philip's former wife, Susan Gerber (listed as Garber), b. in PA, age 50, was living in Claremont Twp., Richland Co., IL, with four children, all born in OH:

  In 1870 Philip's former wife, Susan Gerber (listed as Garver), b. in PA, age 60, was living in German Twp., Richland Co., IL, with one unmarried child:

  In 1880 Philip's former wife, Susan (Saeger) Gerber, age 70, born in PA, a widow, was living in German Twp., Richland Co., Illinois, with their daughter, Catharine Gerber, age 32, born in Ohio and still single, a daughter-in-law, Sophia Gerber (widow of John Gerber), age 34, born in Illinois, and a granddaughter, Mary Gerber, age 8, born in Illinois.
