OBITUARY FROM FREE PRESS STANDARD, 17 FEB 1921 John Hosterman, 81, died Monday at Jewett and was buried Wednesday. He is survived by his widow and a brother, Robert Hosterman, of Carrollton; also a half-brother, F. B. Hosterman, of Carrollton, and a half-sister, Mrs. Ellen Simmons, of Lee Twp. OBITUARY FROM FREE PRESS STANDARD, 24 FEB 1921 John Hosterman was born June 27, 1839, at Kilgore, and Died at Jewett, February 14, 1921, aged 81 years, 7 months and 18 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 16, at his late residence, near Jewett. Mr. Hosterman was a veteran of the civil war, having enlisted November 22, 1861, in the 80th O.V.I., Co. D, receiving his discharge January 9, 1864. He re-enlisted two days before he received his discharge papers and received his final discharge August 13, 1865, at Little Rock, Arkansas. He was in Sherman's famous march to the sea and took an active part in numerous battles. He was a member of Hixson Post No. 581, G. A. R., Scio. Mr. Hosterman was united in marriage to Elizabeth A. Spence, November 4, 1869, who still survives. To this union were born three children, all of whom survive-- William L. and Charles S. of Pittsburgh, and one daughter, Miss Maud, at home. He is also survived by three grandchildren and two brothers -- Robert and Frank Hosterman, of Carrollton, and one sister, Ellen Simmons, of near Kilgore. Mr. Hosterman was a life-long resident of Carroll and Harrison Counties.
