Note: N64 aka Waird CIVIL WAR CASUALTY, CO. D., 80TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED AT THE BATTLE OF CORINTH, MISSISSIPPI, 4 OCT 1862 26-year-old William enlisted in Co. D. of the 80th OVI on 6 Dec 1861. His brother Lewis served under him in Co. D. William died in Paducah, Ky of wounds received at the Battle of Corinth. THE 80TH OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY, by Larry Overmire The 80th gave honorable service during the war, participating in many major campaigns including the Battle of Corinth, Oct. 4, 1862, where it sustained heavy losses, the siege of Vicksburg from May 18 to July 14, 1863, Missionary Ridge on November 25, 1863, and Sherman's March to the Sea. During the course of the war, the regiment lost 4 Officers and 48 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 2 Officers and 179 Enlisted men to disease for a total of 224.
