By his efficient performance of duty, RIDGWAY rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer in conducting successful attacks which resulted in the sinking of four enemy ships for a total loss to the enemy of 11,000 tons. His skill, courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave hazards were in feeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service."

 "For heroic service as Torpedoman's Mate-in-Charge on board the U.S.S. HADDO during the Ninth War Patrol of that vessel in action against enemy Japanese forces in the East China and Yellow Sea Areas from May 31 to July 16, 1945. Skilled in supervising torpedo personnal in the maintenance and firing of torpedoes, RIDGWAY rendered invaluable assistance to his commanding officer in conducting gun and torpedo attacks which resulted in the sinking of four enemy merchant ships, a 1,200-ton escort vessel, a 700-ton patrol frigate and two small craft for a total of 18,000 tons of enemy shipping. His courage, skill and devotion to duty while under persistent enemy gunfire were contributing factors in the success of the surfaced HADDO in escaping through hazardous shallow waters of the enemy's inner defences. His gallant conduct throughout reflects the highest credit upon RIDGWAY and the United States Naval Service."
