Notes
a. Note:   e boat story is correct. Also, that Julius was "working class" and Mary was from a "well-off" family. Julius and Mary supposedly always had wine with dinner ( a rarity at the time). Granny Eliza was supposedly mean to Julius, but h e never responded to it. Kitty said that Dad's (Pete) personality is a lot like his father's. ************************************************* **************** **** SS #208-20-2372 ********************************* ******************************** **** Lived Place: Big Beaver Boro, Bea ver Co., PA Buried by Lutton's funeral home. Christening Certificate s ays "Margarethe Marianne Neske" She died of Complications from Colon Cancer. Attended Beaver Falls High School. **************************** ************************************* **** Grandma was a "gabber". She loved to talk. I cannot remember a time when she was not talking! She h ad a good sense of humor. She always "fed the birds". She would take leftover bits of food from her meals and place them in the backyard for t he animals and birds to eat. She had a garden every year I can remember. She never had a trash man. She would burn everything that was burn able and save the rest in a paper milk container to give to Al to take home with him to his trash. She saw no sense in paying for trash removal for the little bits of trash she had. A child of the depression, grandma never threw anything away! I remember finding in her basement, after she died, approximately 6 toilet seats we had given her over previous Christmases. They were all the padded type and had tape on them where the seat had split over the years. She saved them all, "just in case." She also saved all of the Styrofoam that came under meats from the grocery store. "You never know when it will come in handy." In the drawer in the bottom of the kitchen cabinet that held the Styrofoam, she hid her coin collection. Among the coins was the gold piece given to her by her father. Greg now has this. Grandma made cookies for us every year at Christmas. She brought them up when she and Al came up from Pennsylvania every year. They were Pizzelles (vanilla flavor), Date Bars and others. These were my favorite kinds. She had a wonderful homemade Devil's food cake recipe and Zucchini bread recipe. ******************** ********************************************* ****Per Gussie Naska the H ollisters lived next door to the Naska's. The Blue Bible found in Grand ma Van Kirk's things may have been Bob's from the service, and Grandpa' s was a brown Bible like Uncle Jim's. The other miniature Bible New Te stament was from Church. ********************************************** ******************* **** Per Gussie Naska, Grandma and Grandpa didn't live together until about September 1936, as no one knew they were married, as the marriage had happened early "just in case". **************** ************************************************* **** Grandma was call ed 'Peg' as a child. She went by Marge and Margaret as an adult.
Note:   Per aunt Kitty, Margaret and Bob's grandmother (unsure which one) was i n Hamburg, Germany when she was lost track of. Julius and Mary Immigrated on the same boat and met there. I don't believe th
