Notes
a. Note:   ich was brought on by peritonitis due to an ovarian abscess. Birth date of 29 Nov 1 896 per Aunt Gussie and Grandma Margaret Van Kirk. Supposedly, John Betke came over first. Julius Naska, a friend came over later. Later, John sent for his younger sister to marry Julius. *********************** ****************************************** **** Merianna/Marianne Betke Facts From her marriage license here in the to Julius Neske. It says h er father's name was Louis Betke and her mother was Wilhelmina Wmidt? ( The last name is very hard to read.) A cousin has told me that she believes it is Wink. It lists her birthplace as Russia. She was 19 years old on her marriage date of July 9, 1914. On Julius' application to become a citizen of the , after Merianna had died, he said that she was born in Maufkof, Poland on November 29, 1896 and that her name was Mary B etka. This date does not seem correct as it doesn't match her ages in other documents. On the passenger list for Maryanna Betke, on April 4, 1914, she is listed as either 18 or 19 years of age. She said she was o f German origin, and that she was from Makow. This is hard to make out . When she was asked who her nearest relative was, she said it was her father, Ludwig Betke, from Makow, Lomsa/Lomza/Lomka (The last word is ha rd to read.) It further asks where she was born and she answered Lahimje/Chimje. She was coming to America to live with her brother John Betke. Other miscellaneous facts include: One cousin, Dorothy Emerick, told me that she believes Ludwig/Louis Betke was a Judge, and that the family was Lutheran. I know Johann Betke, her brother was born June 28, 18 87, supposedly in Maucauph, Poland per his immigration papers. ******** ********************************************************* **** Marianna Betke's birth record was witnessed by: Frydrych Janke, 33 yo. Michal Ruch, 44 yo. Workers from Ciemniewo, Poland Her godparents were: Godfryd Sonnenberg and Justyna Ehrenholz (Probably Justyna Ehrenholz was a siste r of Wilhelmina Wink Betke. Her husband was Grzegorz, Ehrenholz.) "It happened in a town of Pultusk on the 14/26 November 1896. Appeared Ludwik Betke farmer of Ciemniewo 37 years old with a company of witnesses Frydrych Janke 33 years old and Michal Ruch 44 years old, farmers of Ciemniewo and showed us a child female sex, announced that yesterday, there was born at 2 a.m. to his wife Wilhelmina nee Wink 35 years old. The child was given during a Holy Baptism, a name of Marianna and godparents were Godfryd Sonnenberg and Justyna Ehrenholz, Julius Sommerfeld and Matylda Kaszynska. The document was read and signed by me because they are illiterate." **************************************************************** * **** Per her daughter Gussie Van Kirk, Mary Betke Naska spoke several languages, English, High German, Low German, Polish, Yiddish and Russian .
Note:   Buried by Orville Scott. Brought out by Campbell Funeral Home in Beaver Falls. Member of 1st Lutheran Church on 16th St. in Beaver Falls. Per Gussie she spoke fluent German. Died from bronchitis wh
