a. Note:   w him as age 4, w hich would mean he was born in 1866. 1880 census show him as age 14, wh ich means he was born in 1866. His daughter Ella was living with her Un cle Howard Kelly in 1900 and Letitia was living with Grandfather David V K by 1900 census, so William might have been dead by 1900. Ocupation P lace: 1880 census as coal miner living at home with parents. William w as "On the way" per Freda Belle Jeffries when David and Nancy Jane Van K irk married, but he was David's son. Does this make him born the day b efore the wedding in 1864? ******************************************** ********************* **** Did he die in the Penitentiary in Columbus, F ranklin Co., OH? A William Van Kirk from Columbiana Co., OH died in th e Penitentiary, supposedly the last week of July 1899 or the first week o f August 1899. He was supposedly 'sent up' in December 1898. The man i n question died of Typhoid fever.
