a. Note:   tract of the pen sion: Bernard Fosnaught: Served in Co K 100th Reg 26 Dec 1861, discha rged on disability of deformity of knee joint on 23 Jan 1862. Also ser ved Co I 78th Reg PA Vol starting 23 Feb 1865. Bernard was 28 yrs on 2 6 Dec 1861, b. Petersburg OH, 5'8", fair complexion, gray eyes, sandy h air, occ: cooper. Bernard d. 15 Apr 1865 in Nashville TN. He married L ouisa VanKirk on 9 Jul 1857 in Darlington Twp, Beaver Co PA by J. W. Jo hnston. The following children are listed: Joseph b. 20 Jul 1859 d. 2 J un 1870, Benjamin b. 11 Apr 1861 alive on 4 May 1872, James A. b. 29 Ap r 1863 d. 15 Aug 1870, Abraham L. b. 13 Sep 1864 d. 9 Jun 1870. After B ernard's death, on 16 Nov 1868 Esau Preston of Harmony, Clay Co IN was a ppointed guardian of these children. However, on 6 May 1872 Peter Crow l of Beaver Co PA claims that he is the guardian of Benjamin. After Be rnard's death, Louise married George Butcher on 25 Apr 1867 in Beaver C o PA; in 1892 he deserted her and on 22 Apr 1896 in St. Joseph Co MI a d ivorce was granted. She remarried William H. Snyder at Mendon MI 7 Jul 1 896; he d. 3 Sep 1908.
