a. Note:   ber of Methodi st Episcopal Church in Wampum. Was a Private in Co.K, 39th. Reg. of PA V olunteers Infantry, 10th Reserves. Served for 3 years, enrolled June 30 , 1861; mustered out with his Company on June 11, 1864 in Pittsburgh an d was engaged in many battles. Was wounded in the head from part of a g un shot shell at Charles City Cross Roads, Virginia on June 30, 1862. H e was hospitalized at Harrison Landing, Virginia, for this wound. Per p ension report of 1885, he is described in 1864 as 5'8" with black hair, b rown eyes, and dark complexion. He lived in South Beaver in 1885. He li ved in Wampum in 1880, Lawrence Co., and lived in Lawrence Co. in 1897. H e was age 18 in 1861. He was said to have developed rheumatism during t he War and was treated by 2 local doctors for this afterward per 1885 p ension report. Since leaving the Service, he resided in Columbiana Co., O hio and Beaver Co., PA as a laborer. Per pension dropped report, he di ed January 19, 1905, so his $17 monthly pension ended. Per newspaper ob ituary 12 children survive him: Mrs. Beck & husband J.A. Beck, with who m he resided in New Castle, Mrs. Charles Searfoss of Leetonia. Other c hildren, with complete names, are listed. Fighting in same Co. and Regi ment was Arthur Vankirk, which was supposedly Archibald's and David's b rother per Don Harrold. Per what was found out at National Archives wa s Arthur who did serve with Archibald. This Arthur was captured at Cha rles City Cross Roads, Virginia on 3/30/62, but escaped. Mustered in a nd out same dates as Archibald. Arthur eventually died leaving a widow , Mary C. She filed for pension June 16, 1866. Application #128383, Cer t#148489. There was an Arthur Vankirk who was in Co. C of Ohio Infantry . He applied for pension as an invalid on May 24, 1880. There was ano ther Arthur who was captured at Glendale on 6/30/62 and died in Richmon d. He may be a relative of Archibald and David per Lorraine's notes and L orilei. If we verify that any of these Arthurs are related to our fami ly, please tell Lorilei as of Jan. 1998. Occupation Place: 1870, per c ensus, as a laborer EVEN: Civil War Service Place: 6/30/61 was entere d. Mustered out 6/11/64 EVEN: Lived Date: 1900 Place: Brighton Twp. w. E merson Hill, son-in-law Funeral Home that handled his death was Offutt a nd Co., in New Castle, PA
  He died at his daughter Mary Beck's home. ***************************** ************************************ **** Per Lorilei's notes, his birt h may have been in May 1843. She further states that Offutt and Co., F uneral home and R. Cunnningham may have records of his death.
