Notes
a. Note:   &gt] Good Day Jarrod, I w as watching sixty minutes last evening and listened to their interviews o n actions of reverse discrimination at the University of MI. It is a d ifficult subject but those on either side are very passionate. The rea soning on selecting the students who will attend U MI seem to be logica l but then again when you hear the arguments against the method of sele cting, their argument seems to be valid as well. Tough decisions have t o be made and whatever happens not everyone is happy. On another note, o n the same airing last evening they interviewed the symphony conductor M ichael Tilson Thomas who now conducts the San Francisco symphony orches tra. I have heard of him for the past few years and greatly spoken of b y his peers. What I did not know was that he is openly gay. However, t he interview did not dwell on that. It was just mentioned in passing. T hey were dealing with his method of conducting and interpretation. They a lso brought out that he is the last of his family and is going to go ba ck to using the family name which is Thomashefsky [?]. He becomes grea tly involved in his music, selection of pieces played at each concert a nd his immense enthusiasm behind the baton. My long time friend, from b ack in the days of West Virginia, is teaching in Indonesia this school t erm which began July 1st. He lives in Bangkok, and has for the past tw enty years. He has a friend back there, but still does a great deal of t raveling which his friend is not too happy when he is gone. They keep i n touch by email constantly. He was here in May for several days of vi siting. He is a perpetual motion machine always on the go wanting to d o something. He was disappointed with Daniel [a friend who came out he re with me from West Virginia] and myself because we did not always mes h our plans with his. Had an enjoyable evening meal at Daniel's. Ther e were about six of us who were invited, several others did not show. T he one lady present is an Arizonan by birth and remembers a lot of earl y history. Her father was an engineer, as was her late husband. She ha s traveled all over the world. She lived several years in Hawaii as wel l. Another gentleman who was there is a Gem buyer and had recently ret urned from Bangkok. In fact, he plans to return early this fall as he h as a friend who lives back there. These two and the several others of u s had a very vigorous and enjoyable conversation time. My friend Danie l works for the State Of Arizona Department of Health. We have known o ne another for over thirty years, while JB I have known for about thirt y-five years. This was going to be a short email, but had lots of thin gs to talk to you about. When you get a chance let me know what is happ ening in your life. I hear your mother is doing a lot of traveling for U MICH and that Marlene and Nova have joined her several times in the sou th. Your grandfather calls occasionally, but, he admits he is not much f or writing. He sends me a good many forwards, which you probably also r eceive. I have a friend in Anchorage, AK but he does not have a workin g computer[his wife has the good one which he is not allowed to use]. a nd need to call or write him. Another friend in Alexandria, VA has his o wn Marina on the Potomac and he called on my birthday. His was a few d ays later on July 3rd. Was unable to make contact so will send him a co mputer generated letter for the mail. If you get through this long, lo ng missive, you are quite good. It may take you several days to read it t hrough. Let me have an email from you!
