Note: David was a Loyalist who settled in Nappan, Nova Scotia The Pugsleys were Loyalists. David Pugsley came from White Plains, New York, to Nova Scotia, when a young man, and settled in Amherst. The one hundred acres of land given him by the Government was at Wallace. He was twice married. His first wife, by whom he had one son, was a Miss Horton. His second wife was a Miss Ripley, and had twelve children, seven daughters and five sons. (Howard Trueman, 1902, as cited, page 75) In a deposition before William Black,Justice of peace in Amherst, David (1759) states that he resided in Cumb.Co from the 15th day of July 1783. David was looking for compenesation for a farm and live stock he lost in N.Y. as a result of the war. David had joined the Westchester Loyalists in 1779. Anyway both David and John Pugsley moved to N.S, in 1783.-David received a grant of land in Weschester, where as John received his land in Wallace. Local documents confirn that John moved to St. John N.B. in 1787. It should be noted that John"s Daniel accompanied him to N.S. and later to N.B. where he married Phebe Sherwood and fathered a large family. Old family papers indicate James Pugsley, son of David by his American wife. The same family papers state that James married a Miss Horton and they had two children, Ephriam, born 1811 who married Sarah Cannon. They had a family mof 6 children.David (1819-1870) who married Jane Pettigrew. In David (1759) will of 1841 he mention his grandson David Pugsley who I think is the aforementioned David. David (1759) left an extensive will in which he named all his children except Hannah (1798) which leads me to feel that she had Died before David. David 's executors found it necessary to ask the courts to distribute the excess funds that surfaced. David died a wealthy man.
