Note: Harvey's Memorial Harvey’s Dad was an insurance sales man and his wife, Belle, a homemaker - Joan was his sister.
He attended private schools and the San Rafael Military Academy, graduating from George Washington High School in San Francisco n 1948.
After High School he attended San Francisco City College and College of the Pacific in Stockton CA. The Korean War interrupted his schooling and he enlisted in the Air Force in 1949, where he became a Control Tower Operator. He remained in the Air Force for three years.
Prior to his enlistment he met his wife, Lois, thanks to a double date his best friend arranged. He took her to San Francisco Wharf to watch Fireworks on the 4th of July - Thus began a traditional way to spend the 4th every year after. On their second date he took her to the Fairmont Hotel to see Mel Torme. They took their time dating - they were both young - but their relationship kept growing and they were married on Sept. 29, 1951. They had 3 children - twins Debra and Wendy and son David. They also have two Granddaughters, Katie and Megan.
The family moved to Vacaville in 1962, where he managed Meyers Jewelers. In 1975 He bought Dawson’s Bar and Grill in Dixon, which he operated for 28 years. In Vacaville, he was an active member of the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Business Association.
The volunteer work he was most proud of was working for the Suicide Prevention Hotline. He also helped start the Key Club and the Service Gents for High school students who were underachieving.
The Kaplow's have enjoyed many memorable vacations. When his daughters graduated from High School and Dave was ready to start Vacaville High School, the family spent the summer traveling across the U.S. in a motor home.
Harvey’s beliefs: If we are ever going to find world peace, it is going to have to start with one person, and then spread like wildfire. Therefore, try showing a little more compassion to your neighbor.
