Notes
a. Note:   A note from Samuel Wm. Aylesworth, compiler of this family tree/database:
John STANTON was a brother to one of my great-great-grandfathers, Thomas STANTON.
We have located the headstone for Thomas Stanton and Rachel Ann (Ryland) Stanton at Woodland Cemetery in London Ontario Canada. Notes are engraved on the same headstone relating to Richard Stanton and Esther and for John and Hannah. It is because of the headstones that we know that the father of Thomas was named Richard STANTON and that Thomas had at least one brother named John STANTON. However, we are not certain whether Richard and John are actually buried in London Ontario or whether the comments on the headstone are there to honor them.
The engraving for John and Hannah reads:
"In Memory of JOHN STANTON, Died Feb 21, 1871, Aged 63 years ... and of HANNAH his wife, Died Dec 1, 1882 Aged 79 years." A verse in the middle of this inscription reads "Our life hangs by a slender thread which soon is cut and we are dead. Born not just of this light ... (difficult to read), We are here at noon and gone at night."
For further information about this family, see the Notes under Richard STANTON and those under Thomas STANTON.

The 1850 USA Federal Census lists John, Hannah and their son James, as living in Cass, Schuykill, Pennsylvania, USA.
The 1860 USA Federal Census lists John, Hannah, AND their son Jno H (assumed to be James) with Martha who is presumed to be the wife of Jno H. and John age 1 who is presumed to be the son of Jno H and Martha. They are all living in Wilkes Barre, Luzern, Pennsylvania, USA.
John's occupation is listed as a Coal Operator.
