Notes
a. Note:   James Monroe Ryland was a twin to his sister Phoebe.
The name James/John Monroe Ryland was provided to me by John F. Ryland of San Francisco. He also referred me to the following website:
 http://www.notyourdomain.com/oldwest/co/glensp3.htm
John F. Ryland ("JFR) wrote: "Here lies James Monroe Riland, son of your Willam Ryland and Eliza Lippincott, and in the same Pioneer Cemetery as the famous gunfighter, Doc Holliday (of O.K. Corral fame)."
In a later email JFR wrote:
"There is a fellow in Colorado, John L. Hines, who is writing a book about James Monroe Ryland (the son of William who is buried in the Pioneer Cemetery with Doc Holliday). ... William had three sons who fought in the Civil War. James Monroe Ryland and William Horton Ryland were both wounded and, many years later, William died of blood poisoning associated with that wound (there must have been a bullet that they were unable to dig out). According to family tradition, Richard Rush Ryland starved to death in Andersonville Prison. However, according to the Andersonville website, Richard survived his imprisonment there. ... Sincerely, JFR"
By email July 20, 2006, JFR notes that James Monroe Ryland was "murdered." No further detail is known at this time.

A newspaper article regarding the 1935 reunion of the descendants of Andrew Ryland and Phoebe Burkhart state:
"... mention was made of a town by the name of Ryland in Garfield County, Colorado, which was named after James Monroe Ryland, a son of William and Elizabeth Lippencott Ryland of Schuylkill Countyf, Pa. Mr. Ryland was the first permanent settler on Sweet Water Creek, in that County." (Newspaper not identified.)
