Note: John Young and Katrin Kelly immigrated to Canada from Ireland aboard the ship "The Stakesby" in 1823. See entries under John, Katrin, and their children for further detail. Some researchers on the internet say there is reference to two Mary Young's on board the Stakesby. However, this is not true, at least for the Ship's list of passengers posted on "The Ships List". The younger Mary Young was 5 years old and the daughter of John Young and Katrin Kelly. Some have speculated that the older Mary Young (I'll call her Mary II Young) was about 20, and that she may have been a sister of John Young. Speculation is that she joined the family on the trip to assist Katrin with the care of the children. Some have futher speculated that this Mary II Young later married John Henry Sullivan (see more info about John Henry Sullivan in this family tree). If so, then this couple would be similar in age. Others have speculated that John Henry Sullivan married the younger Mary Young, the daughter of John Young and Katrin Kelly. If so, this John Henry Sullivan would have been about 15 years older than his wife Mary Young. To my knowledge as of this date, none of this speculation has been proven. It could be that the Mary Ann UNKNOWN, who married John Henry Sullivan, may not have been a member of the Young family at all! More work is required to clarify these matters.
