Note: I have included William YOUNG and Sarah BISHOFF, and their children and subsequent generations in this family tree because one of their daughters, Fredericka Elizabeth YOUNG, married William Horton RILAND, and I descend directly from Rachel Ann RYLAND/RILAND, a sister of this William Horton RILAND. Thus, descendants of Fredericka would be cousins, aunts and uncles to myself and members of my immediate family. Based on the information provided below, it appears that William YOUNG and Sarah BISCHOFF married in 1836 and divorced sometime in the late 1850's or very early in the 1860's. They had ten or eleven children. (A first child named Catherine, born in 1836, is listed by some but not all researchers, and Catherine is not listed in any of the census records referred to below.) The 1840 USA Census does not list all members in a family. However, William himself is listed. In the 1850 USA Census, William (age 41) and his wife Sarah (35) are listed, along with six children: Fredericka (12), Elenora (10) , Wilhemena (7), William (5), Gerhart (3) and Theophilis (0). A seventh child, named Emma Brenozer, Age 17, is also living with the family. Note that a child named Catherine, is not listed in this census; some researchersw say that Catherine was born in 1836 and was the first child of William and Sarah. Does this mean Catherine died while young OR that she is not correctly identified as a child of William and Sarah OR that she is the Catherine listed as ? For the 1860 USA Census we find a listing for Sarah (age 46), as the head of a household, but William is not listed. Four younger children are listed with Sarah: Catherine (age 6), Sarah (5), Isaac (5) -- a twin to Sarah -- and Ida (1). Two other persons are listed as living with this family: a girl named Ema Bayer (age 13) and a man named Syrus SONDER (age 35). According to Josephine BAUER, a descendant of William and Sarah, Sarah herself died in the early 1860's and is said to have been buried at the Charles Evans Cemetery ... although Ms. BAUER was not able to locate Sarah's gravesite there. In the 1870 USA Census, William YOUNG is living with some of the older children first listed in the 1850 census (namely: Elnora (29) , John G. (23) and Theophilus (20) ... AND ... four younger children, three of who were living with Sarah in 1860 (the four younger children are: Annie (16) , Issac (15), Sarah (15) and Ida (11). We assume that Gerhart from the 1850 census and John G from the 1870 Census are the same person. Similarly, we assume that Catherine from the 1860 Census and Annie from the 1870 Census are the same person. Thus, the following children are not listed in the 1870 census (their approximate ages are shown in brackets): Fredericka (32), Wilhemena (27) and William (25). In the 1880 USA Census, William listed as DIVORCED, so it seems likely that William and Sarah divorced sometime in the last 1850's or very early in the 1860's. In the 1880 Census, William is living with three of his children: John G. (32), Sarah (25) and Ida (21). William himself died in 1886, and is buried in a plot purchased by his some John Gerhart YOUNG. This plot is located in the Charles Evans Cemetery in Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA. (This note added on March 24th, 2013 by Samuel William Aylesworth, building in part upon information provided by Josephine BAUER, a descendant of William and Sarah.) =====================
