Notes
a. Note:   CAUTION: I may have made a major error in stating that the father of Thomas J. FINLEY was Levi George TINSLEY.
  I, Sam Aylesworth, who assembled this family tree database, know nothing directly about Thomas J. FINLEY. He was the father of my aunt, Nola Claudine (nee FINLEY) Nickle/Scrimes.
  According to the note provided below, the parents of Thomas J. FINLEY 'split up', and did not live together. Building on this, I located a 1900 Census Record that listed Thomas Jefferson FINLEY living with his grandparents, Thomas F Nixon and his wife Sarah. Two other FINLEY children are listed: Alice FINLEY and Oscar FINLEY.
  I then located a record that showed Mary Jane NIXON, daughter of Thomas F NIXON, married Levi George TINSLEY. Further, I find later references to Oscar TINSLEY and Alice TINSLEY (rather than Oscar FINLEY and Alice FINLEY), so it is clear that the names FINLEY and TINSLEY have been used to name persons other than Thomas J. FINLEY.
  Thus far I've identified two alternative explanations for these data:
 (a) For some reason the name Thomas TINSLEY was later changed to Thomas FINLEY, and I have the genealogy correct OR
 (b) The 1900 Census Taker incorrectly listed the names of the three children staying with their Grandfather Thomas NIXON as FINLEY when he should have written TINSLEY, and I have then INCORRECTLY identified Thomas FINLEY with a completely different person, Thomas TINSLEY. I'll continue to research this matter.
  One genealogist says that Thomas J. TINSLEY died in 1952 in Missouri, whereas I know that 'my' Thomas J. FINLEY died in about 1975 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This finding provides further CAUTION against accepting that Thoms J. TINSLEY and Thomas J. FINLEY are the same person. I'll continue to research this matter also.

  ===============================
  I did receive the following note in 2010 from Ruth (nee BURCHAM) WALKER, a grand-niece of Nola (nee FINLEY):
  "Nola told me her father was born in MO. His parents had split-up. ... I first met Tom when I was only less than 10 years old at my grandparents home on their farm. He had come to visit.
  His wife Janie (nee BURCHAM) and Tom FINLEY had quit a stormy relationship as I recall. He lived in Penticton, BC. She had a home in Calgary. Sometimes she was in BC with him and sometimes not.
  I don't know where or when Tom and Janie married but I suspect AR. Janie was in a nursing home last time I saw her before she died. The year was maybe 1972 or 3. The home was at Summerland, B.C. I think Nola said she was buried nearby at one of the cemetery's near there.
  Thomas and Janie owned some rental homes and also a nice place just across the street in Penticton. The places were located only about 3 blocks west of the main street in Penticton. I had visited there several times with my Father and also after he died with just my family. My 2nd cousin William Earl Williams would winter there with them. He was a nephew of my Grandmother, And he was her Brothers Son. His folks had settled near Drumheller,Alberta.
  Tom died at Calgary after living with Nola for a while and she told me he was buried at Didsbury , Alberta.
  There was a brother and family that lived at Didsbury I think. The Son was about my fathers age and his name was Luther Finley. His mother was Belle Finley and Father was Monroe. I don't think Luther ever married. He had a auto repair shop I think I was told."
