Notes
a. Note:   Francesca Michels was one of nine children, her parents farmed at Ahden, Germany. At the age of 27 she left Germany for America in the company of her future husband, Wilhelm Klausmeyer and another friend from Ahden. After their arrival in New York they traveled on to Springfield, Illinois, where they were met by friends who had emigrated earlier from Germany. Francesca took a job with August Kloppenburg on their farm. Francesca and Wilhelm where married within a year of their arrival in Illinois and farmed there until 1878 when they moved to Aleppo, Kansas. Within two years her husband was dead and she continued farming with the help of her son, Wilhem Jr., who was only 14 at the time of his father's death.
