Notes
a. Note:   Wilhelm was the 4th child in a family of 5 girls and 5 boys. Father Clemens Kaufkotter baptized Wilhelm on Feb.. 8, 1833; godparents were Joseph Koch from Borchen, Elisebeth Klausmeier, and Joseph Richter. In 1866 Wilhelm along with his future wife, Franziska Michels, boarded the steamship "Hansa" on or about March 25. They made a stop at Southhampton, England on March 27th and proceeded onto New York, arriving on April 10th. After another 6 days travel, they arrived in Springfield Illinois on April 16th. They were married in Springfield, IL in February, 1867.
At some point William and Franziska moved to New Berlin and farmed there until 1878, when they moved to Kansas. Story has it that the night before leaving for Kansas, the house caught fire and burned the cash for the trip.
Wilhelm died in 1890 after accidentally mistaking a bottle of lye for whiskey. He was the first to be buried at the Aleppo cemetery.
